Garlic Lane Shopping Street

Garlic Lane in Bali is named after a restaurant of the same name on Jalan Sahadewa, one of the out-of-the-way and narrow side streets off Legian’s main roads. This 200-metre-long route provides you with a lot of variety, comprising art shops, DVD stores, fashion boutiques, woodcarving galleries and others. The lane forms part of regular shopping walks through Legian, connecting the restaurant-lined Jalan Padma and the Merta Nadi Art Market on Jalan Melasti.

Legian is one of Bali’s most popular beach resort areas where you will find rows of small shops along its main street, and various lanes offering a variety of art items and trinkets, as well as brightly coloured tropical wear right down to cheap counterfeit brand items. Fashion boutiques line the main Jalan Legian, and one recommended starting point is the junction at Jalan Melasti, where you will also find the sprawling Mertanadi Art Market. The three kilometre-long route is best explored on foot, as those visiting this area will easily find themselves popping into one shop after another – each featuring a different set of items and price tags. Nevertheless, most aren’t tagged whatsoever, so be prepared to put your bargaining skills to test.
